Live Online (virtual instructor-led) training has become a standard for learning teams all over the world. Virtual classroom technology enables learning and development teams to reach all audiences, at any time of the day, with just a simple internet connection. But let’s face it, learning to engage your audience using this type of technology is an immense challenge. It requires a unique skill set that combines using virtual presentation, facilitation, and design techniques with technical knowledge to skillfully deliver online learning events.

This 3-session, live online certificate helps you to identify, develop, and practice the necessary skills to become savvy virtual trainers. It also addresses what is required to be properly prepared to deliver online, what you need to do adjust your individual beliefs around online learning, and how your organization can begin to make the shifts necessary to support a virtual learning culture.

Course Details

Application Assignments: There will be a required 1-hour assignment following sessions one and two and an optional one following session three.

Technical Needs/Prerequisites:
This course requires use of the Zoom application as a participant on a laptop or computer. Visit the ZOOM website to download the most current version. 

***Participation via mobile device such as an iPhone or iPad or via a Web interface is NOT advised.

You must know or learn how to do the following things in Zoom prior to the start of the course (please practice in advance using the instructional links provided below).

• How to get on audio in Zoom by phone or via computer.
• The location of the Zoom mute and unmute function.
• How to Chat online in Zoom.
• For the in class practice time, learn how to share your screen in Zoom to show your work and collaborate in breakouts. 

You will be asked to complete independent application assignments using this access or using you live training platform.

Although this course is taught using the Zoom platform; participants can practice their course skills on their in-house/preferred platform (e.g. Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Adobe Connect, etc.)

Course Objectives

In this certificate, you will learn to:

• Master technical expertise to deliver live online events with ease.
• Create engaging virtual instructor-led experiences
• Sharpen the presentation skills necessary to masterfully inspire an engaging online event.
• Develop the unique facilitation skills required to ensure learning transfer in an online event.
• Design and deliver a live online activity of your own, following the principles taught and practiced in the live + online learning sessions.

Course Materials

Before the certificate you may download your participant guide containing job aids, examples, platform checklists, and key points to remember for you to use as you design, develop, deliver, and support your live online courses. For example:

• You will have several checklists to help you navigate the various live online platforms on the market today: WebEx Meeting and Training Centers, Zoom, Adobe Connect, Teams, and a Universal one that can be used for any virtual classroom platform.
• You’ll have the Virtual Trainer’s Competency Model detailing the specific skills necessary to be confident delivering engaging live online training.
• You’ll get a Virtual Activity Design Process worksheet providing a step by step guide for developing and converting activities and engagement in the live online environment.
• Using example live online templates and activities, you’ll create your own materials and processes to successfully deliver your virtual training strategy.

Session Assignments:

Session 1:  Submit a 3-minute recording of your virtual classroom platform discoveries and prepare a 1-slide introductory presentation.
Session 2:  Prepare and rehearse for your 5-minute guided practice activity to be delivered in session 3. You will receive the slides and the trainer manual.
Session 3:  Final, optional independent application project which you may complete on your own.

Develop technical expertise to run live online events with ease.

• Fix any issues that may arise, and be prepared for ones that are unexpected

Session 2: Virtual Presentation Skills
Sharpen the presentation skills necessary to masterfully inspire an engaging online event.

• Show visuals and screen shares that excite your audience to action

Session 3: Virtual Facilitation Skills
Deliver an assigned activity of a live online training for feedback and coaching from the instructor and certificate peers.

• Listen to participant's responses and lear to look for meaning even when it cannot be heard
• Coach participants to great levels of learning and depth of understanding

Course Equipment

IMPORTANT - You'll participate in online and collaborative activities in a number of ways, each designed to provide a unique means to interact and learn from experts and colleagues. All course delivery software operates at Internet connection speeds of 56.6 kbps or better, on PC, Mac and Unix platforms. Courses will use teleconferencing or VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol.) The login instructions emailed to you approximately one week prior to the start of the course will outline platform use as well as any headset requirements or suggestions. Each registrant must provide their own laptop or desktop computer and other equipment (such as a headset, if noted in your login instructions) in order to fully and successfully participate in the course. Please test your login information a minimum of 48 hours in advance on your course start date on the computer you will be using for the course.
