Course Details

Application Assignments: There will be a required 1-hour assignment following sessions one and two and an optional one following session three.

Technical Needs/Prerequisites:*
This course requires use of the Zoom application as a participant on a laptop or desktop computer. Visit the ZOOM website to download the most current version. 

* Participation via mobile device such as an iPhone or iPad or via a Web interface is NOT advised.

Although this course is taught using the Zoom platform; you can practice your course skills on your in-house/preferred platform (e.g. Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Adobe Connect, etc.)

Course Objectives

In this certificate, you will learn to:

  • Further the technical expertise required to deliver live online training with ease.
  • Create engaging virtual instructor-led experiences.
  • Sharpen the presentation skills necessary to masterfully inspire an engaging online event.
  • Develop the unique facilitation skills required to ensure learning transfer in an online event.
  • Design and deliver a live online activity of your own, following the principles taught and practiced in the live + online learning sessions.

Course Materials

Before the certificate you may download your participant guide containing job aids, examples, platform checklists, and key points to remember for you to use as you design, develop, deliver, and support your live online courses.
For example:

  • You will have several checklists to help you navigate the various live online platforms on the market today: WebEx Meeting and Training Centers, Zoom, Adobe Connect, Teams, and a Universal one that can be used for any virtual classroom platform.
  • You’ll have the Virtual Trainer’s Competency Model detailing the specific skills necessary to be confident delivering engaging live online training.
  • You’ll get a Virtual Activity Design Process worksheet providing a step-by-step guide for developing and converting activities and engagement in the live online environment.
  • Using example live online templates and activities, you’ll create your own materials and processes to successfully deliver your virtual training strategy.

Session Assignments:
 

Session 1: Submit a 3-minute recording of your virtual classroom platform discoveries and prepare a 1-slide introductory presentation.

Session 2: Prepare and rehearse for your 5-minute guided practice activity to be delivered in session 3. You will receive example slides and the trainer manual.

Session 3: Final, optional independent application project which you may complete on your own.

Session 1: Managing the Virtual Platform
Grow your technical expertise to run live online training with ease.

  • Learn the features of any platform.
  • Use the platform naturally.
  • Fix any issues that may arise, and be prepared for ones that are unexpected.

Session 2: Presenting Virtually
Sharpen the presentation skills necessary to masterfully inspire an engaging online session.

  • Say messages with clarity of meaning and annunciation.
  • Show visuals and screen shares that excite your audience to action.

Session 3: Facilitating Virtually
Develop the unique facilitation skills required to ensure learning transfer in an online training using the “ask, listen, coach” segment of the capability model.

  • Ask insightful questions to inspire thought.
  • Listen to participant's responses and to look for meaning even when it cannot be heard.
  • Coach participants to great levels of learning and depth of understanding.

The "Rain Date" is a date to reserve on your calendar. It will be used in the unlikely event that an earlier session can not run as planned due to technical difficulties or a speaker emergency.

This course is comprised of three (3) live online sessions. Each session is 2 hours in length.

All sessions start at 10:00 am Eastern Time (New York time). Here is the time of the sessions listed in various time zones:

IMPORTANT - You'll participate in online and collaborative activities in a number of ways, each designed to provide a unique means to interact and learn from experts and colleagues. All course delivery software operates at Internet connection speeds of 56.6 kbps or better, on PC, Mac and Unix platforms. Courses will use teleconferencing or VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol.) The login instructions emailed to you approximately one week prior to the start of the course will outline platform use as well as any headset requirements or suggestions. Each registrant must provide their own laptop or desktop computer and other equipment (such as a headset, if noted in your login instructions) in order to fully and successfully participate in the course. Please test your login information a minimum of 48 hours in advance on your course start date on the computer you will be using for the course.
