There will be a required 1-hour assignment following sessions one and two and an optional one following session three.
Technical Needs/Prerequisites:
This course requires use of the Zoom application as a participant on a laptop or desktop computer. Visit the ZOOM website to download the most current version.

Although this course is taught using the Zoom platform; you can practice your course skills on your in-house/preferred platform (e.g. Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Adobe Connect, etc.)

Course Objectives
In this certificate, you will learn to:
- Identify the online meeting technology features used to create engaging online training like chat, whiteboard, polling and breakouts
- Prepare virtual instructor led materials following current design approaches.
- Select appropriate virtual instructional strategies and activities that engage today's online learners.
- Develop engaging learning activities that prepare participants and ensure learning transfer in an online event.
- Design live online activities, following the principles taught and practiced in the live + online learning sessions.
Course Materials
Before the certificate, you may download your participant manual containing job aids, examples, platform checklists, and processes for you to use as you prepare, design, and support your live online courses. For example:
- You’ll have several checklists to help you navigate the various live online platforms on the market today: Zoom, WebEx, Adobe Connect, Teams, and a universal checklist that can be used for any virtual classroom platform.
- You’ll receive a Virtual Activity Design Process job aid providing a step-by-step guide for developing and converting activities and engagement in the live online environment.
- Using example live online templates and activities, you’ll create your own materials and processes to successfully deliver your virtual training strategy.

During this certificate, you will participate in the following three sessions:
Session 1: Instructional Design for the Modern Virtual Classroom
Introductions, foundation for virtual instructional design, and a demonstration of a model engaging live online training session.
- Describe how engaging live online training events are designed and delivered using a 3-Step Virtual Activity Design Process
- Determine the appropriate level of interaction to design impactful live online training.
- Analyze activities for specific engagement techniques to apply to your own programs.
Session 2: Creating Engaging Virtual Classroom Environments
Prepare participants to effectively learn online and analyze the features of the live online training platform to create engaging learning environments.
- Prepare participants to launch effective learning (learn online)
- Create effective solutions using the features of the platform (use features)
- Avoid the specific areas that cause the most trouble (troubleshoot)
Session 3: Advancing Your Virtual Classroom Design Techniques
Develop additional design skills required to ensure learning transfer in an online event.
- Design materials to support demonstration and delivery of trainer / producer skills
- Create solutions for learning more complex learning activities, including hybrid training setups
- Engage learners using additional online tools, applications, and resources

IMPORTANT - You'll participate in online and collaborative activities in many ways, each designed to provide a unique means to interact and learn from experts and colleagues. All course delivery software operates at Internet connection speeds of 56.6 kbps or better, on PC, Mac and Unix platforms. Programs will use teleconferencing or VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol.) The login instructions emailed to you approximately one week prior to the start of the course will outline platform use as well as any headset requirements or suggestions. Each registrant must provide their own laptop or desktop computer and other equipment (such as a headset, if noted in your login instructions) in order to fully and successfully participate in the course. Please test your login information a minimum of 48 hours in advance on your course start date on the computer you will be using for the course.
