Certificate Overview
This certificate is designed to help you gain knowledge and develop skills that will allow you to reduce the amount of learning in your organization that is delivered but not applied back on the job. The gap or difference between learning delivered, but not applied back on the job, is called Scrap Learning. Scrap Learning is a significant problem that holds your organization back and is costly to ignore. It wastes valuable resources such as time and money and puts the credibility of L&D departments at risk. There is a solution: Predictive Learning Analytics. This revolutionary new evaluation methodology can help organizations bridge the gap between learning delivered and applied on the job. Using five key metrics, Predictive Learning Analytics (PLA) pinpoints the underlying causes of Scrap Learning associated with a learning program. It then provides a process to identify targeted corrective actions to mitigate or eliminate these causes. With Predictive Learning Analytics (PLA), L&D departments can confidently help their organizations achieve better learning transfer and save both time and money. You'll end the course knowing how to reduce or eliminate Scrap Learning and achieve the learning outcomes you, and the business executives you support, wish to achieve.
Bonus Items:
- A comprehensive workbook covering all the information taught during the course.
- A booklet titled "Evaluate Learning with Predictive Learning Analytics," written by Ken Phillips
- Nine measurement and evaluation articles by the same author on various levels of evaluation.
- An ebook titled "The L&D Revolution: New Rules, New Tools."
- A Predictive Learning Analytics Project Implementation Guide, which provides a road map for implementing the PLA methodology. This guide comes with a series of job aids that provide detailed information about each step.
- Access two voluntary 60-minute post-program virtual coaching sessions. The first session follows modules one and two, while the second follows modules three and four. These sessions aim to answer any questions about the material covered, help you implement the PLA methodology, and provide support and encouragement. You can also contact Ken directly by phone or email for further assistance.
Course Details:
This program is designed to help you gain knowledge and develop skills that will allow you to reduce the amount of learning in your organization that is delivered but not applied back on the job. The program focuses on "what to do" and "how to do it." Specifically, you will learn how to calculate and analyze five key data sources, two of which are predictive and three are descriptive. These sources will help you measure, monitor, and manage any scrap learning associated with a training program. Additionally, the program provides ample time to design an actual Predictive Learning Analytics initiative that you can implement immediately on the job. You also will share your work with other participants and receive valuable feedback and new ideas from them and Ken.
Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites for this course. However, a strong desire to measure, monitor, and manage the Scrap Learning associated with a training program is essential.
Who Should Attend:
This certificate is ideal for L&D professionals who want to learn how to use data to identify and address the causes of Scrap Learning associated with a training program.
Course Objectives
After attending this comprehensive, “hands-on” course, you will be able to:
- Identify the impact Scrap Learning has on wasted organization resources and lost credibility with business executive stakeholders.
- Use five key Predictive Learning Analytics metrics to identify the underlying causes of Scrap Learning associated with a training program.
- Predict which participants are most likely, at-risk, and least likely to apply what they learned in a training program back on the job.
- Predict which managers of the program participants are likely to provide active or passive support for the training.
- Determine which research-based training transfer components and training transfer factors contribute the most and least to training transfer.
- Calculate the amount of scrap learning associated with a training program and identify the obstacles inhibiting participants from applying what they learned.
- Validate the accuracy of your participant training transfer predictions using Level 2 and Level 3 evaluation data.
- Create reports showing your Predictive Learning Analytics results and gain increased credibility with business executive stakeholders.
Course Methods:
Each online session contains small group activities, presentations, and facilitated discussions. Your responsibility is to participate in each actively. Also, to gain maximum benefit from the program, please select a training program you would likely use with the Predictive Learning Analytics (PLA) methodology in the practical application activities of the certificate. Four factors to consider when choosing a program are:
- Does the program have a high profile with company executives?
- Does the program have high development or implementation costs?
- Are a large number of participants scheduled to attend the program?
- Is the program designed and developed internally?
Selecting an existing training program will help you get a solid start with applying the tips and guidelines you learn.
