Course Details

During this certificate course, your instructor will guide you, step-by-step, through the process of using Articulate Storyline to build effective and appealing elearning. Session assignment(s) will be integrated into each one hour segment – teach/demos for 40-45 minutes with 10-15 minutes to work on your assignment. This approach will allow you to practice the concepts taught in that previous segment while they are still fresh in your mind. At the end of a session (3 hours) a final assignment will be distributed for continued self-paced practice between sessions. You will build a small elearning project during this certificate to gain hands-on practice applying your new skills.

Course Objectives

In this certificate you will learn to:

• Become acquainted with Storyline’s user interface and features.
• Plan your course by understanding how to organize scenes and slides.
• Move more rapidly from storyboard to Storyline by importing existing assets, including PowerPoint slides and other Storyline files.
• Use the basic building blocks of Storyline such as states, layers, and triggers.
• Understand object shapes when using characters, buttons and shapes.
• Explore Storyline's audio and video features.
• Create simple interactions: drag-and-drop, click and reveal,  and more.
• Understand object states, including characters, buttons, and shapes.
• Understand interactive objects including markers, hotspots, buttons, and scrolling panels.
• Use best practices for leveraging Storyline’s basic quizzing features.
• Publish your project.
• Leverage creative ideas and techniques for enhancing your elearning designs.

Prerequisites:
A basic understanding of computing concepts (zipping/unzipping files, cutting/pasting, etc.) is required.  A basic understanding of elearning is helpful. 

Who Should Attend:
This certificate course is for non-programmers who wish to learn basic to intermediate authoring features of Articulate Storyline. Managers may also benefit from seeing the creation and development process so they may more accurately estimate course development time and cost.

Technical Requirements

Participants with either Storyline 3 or Storyline 360 can attend. All demonstrations are shown in Storyline 360.

Important: If you do not have a licensed copy of Articulate Storyline, you must download a complimentary trial version prior to the start of the course no sooner than 1-2 days before the class so that the trial does not expire prior to completing the course and related homework assignments. Follow this link. 

Your trial period for this software is 30 days from the time you install. Therefore, we recommend that you install the trial version no more than one or two days prior to the first session. All versions of Articulate Storyline are independent of each other and all can be installed on the same computer. While the current version can support previous versions of software, they are not backward compatible. Each new version of Articulate Storyline has new features.

Note to MAC Users:
Articulate Storyline is a Windows-based program. Currently there is no version specifically for a Mac. However, you can run Storyline on a Mac with Parallels, Boot Camp, or VMware Fusion virtual machine. Kevin Thorn is an award-winning eLearning designer with over 20 years’ experience in the training industry. After retiring from the Army as a trainer, Kevin earned a Technology Management degree in pursuit of an IT career. When his interest in technology mashed with his passion for visual design along with his experience in training, he founded NuggetHead Studioz, LLC. The Studioz is a custom design and development company providing services in instructional design, storyboarding, eLearning development, Articulate Storyline training, illustration, graphic design, storytelling, cartooning and comics.

The "Rain Date" is a date to reserve on your calendar. It will be used in the unlikely event that an earlier session can not run as planned due to technical difficulties or a speaker emergency.

Course Equipment

IMPORTANT - You'll participate in online and collaborative activities in a number of ways, each designed to provide a unique means to interact and learn from experts and colleagues. All course delivery software operates at Internet connection speeds of 56.6 kbps or better, on PC, Mac and Unix platforms. Courses will use teleconferencing or VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol.) The login instructions emailed to you approximately one week prior to the start of the course will outline platform use as well as any headset requirements or suggestions. Each registrant must provide their own laptop or desktop computer and other equipment (such as a headset, if noted in your login instructions) in order to fully and successfully participate in the course. Please test your login information a minimum of 48 hours in advance on your course start date on the computer you will be using for the course.
