This online certificate will teach you how to set up a PowerPoint file for Web-based training (WBT) including navigation, help, instructor email, progress tracking and references. Entrance, Exit, Emphasis and movement effects will be discussed in conjunction with how to design an exciting WBT splash screen and course main menu. Specific techniques for adding audio, video and a Flash object player will be demonstrated with lab opportunities for participants. A wide range of engaging PowerPoint learning activities including games, triggers and role focus simulations will be demonstrated with design tips. Packaging and deployment issues will be explored including PowerPoint, HTML, Flash and Impactica formats. Each participant will have an opportunity to prepare a short WBT PowerPoint lesson and deploy this lesson using an LMS system as a final project.
This certificate program will primarily focus on PowerPoint 2003 functionality; however a short demonstration will be conducted for participants utilizing and/or considering upgrading to PowerPoint 2007.

- Importing audio and video content. How to add audio using two methods. How to play audio across multiple screens. How to add video using three methods. How to imbed a Microsoft video player and Flash Object.
- Creating Learning Activities. How to create engaging learning activities using PowerPoint including games, triggers and role focus simulations. How to create and implement timers and three levels of user feedback including correct, incorrect and time out.
- Prepare your PowerPoint for WBT Delivery. How to troubleshoot common problems with layering. How to turn on or off navigation. How to add course maps.
- How to convert PowerPoint alternative delivery formats. Tips and issues associated delivery of PowerPoint in native format, Flash, Impactica and HTML.
- Implementing your PowerPoint program in a LMS. Uploading the file, testing the file and deploying the file using an LMS system.
How Will I Learn?
The certificate will include a combination of lecture, demonstration and lab generally in that order. Many PowerPoint for WBT examples will be show. You will be able to download PowerPoint lab files to facilitate learning exercises to be completed during or after each course session. A wide range of reinforcing reading resource links will be provided to facilitate transfer of learning and application on the job. (Check back for a link to an example of our reading assignments.)
Are There Any Prerequisites?
To successfully participate in this certificate, you must:
Have basic computer skills:
- Be comfortable using your mouse, or other input tool like a digital tablet.
- Find and open directories and files .
- Right-click with the mouse and use the context menu.
- Select multiple objects.
- Switch among multiple windows (ALT TAB.)
Know how to use the basic features of PowerPoint 2003 (or higher) to perform these operations:
- Selecting multiple objects.
- Duplicating objects .
- Grouping and ungrouping objects.
- Arranging objects.
- Changing the animation order of objects.
- Changing the front-to-back order of objects.
- Insert a hyperlink or Action setting.

This is an advanced, hands-on certificate program. You must have the necessary software installed on you computer as well as have the necessary skills. Here is a checklist to help you get ready. Note: Mac users are encouraged to participate; however, all demonstrations will be conducted using a PC running Windows XP. You will need:
- PowerPoint 2003 or higher. (All the techniques will be demonstrated using PowerPoint 2003 on a PC running Windows XP Professional.) For participants using or considering using PowerPoint 2007 a set of lab exercises will be provided for this platform as well a short demo will be conducted pointing out advanced PowerPoint 2007 features. Keep in mind that all demonstration will be conducted in general using PowerPoint 2003.
- Flash Player plug-in, which is available from www.adobe.com.

Each daily session (during October 2, 6 and 7) will be 3 hours long. During each session, we will mix lecture with hands-on practice activities you will perform on your own. There will be opportunities to ask questions during the daily sessions as well as through the Training Live & Online community discussion forum.
