This certificate covers the basics of developing e-learning with PowerPoint, from creating good user interfaces to inserting navigation, designing for impact, creating and editing art and animation, developing interactivity (your learners could be doing much more than just clicking “next”), and adding narration and multimedia. We’ll also explore strategies for transforming – not merely “converting” – existing classroom courses and materials.

Program Details
This certificate is meant for anyone wanting to create e-learning with PowerPoint and is appropriate for those using PowerPoint-based authoring tools such as Articulate. It is especially meant for those wanting to create good e-learning with PowerPoint.

Creating Engaging E-Learning with PowerPoint Certificate will teach you to:

  • Develop a user-friendly interface.
  • Make decisions about file size and output types.
  • Create and import audio, video, and Flash content.
  • Develop interesting, engaging treatments for training material.
     

  • Instructors and teachers.
  • Presenters who want to blend online learning with more traditional approaches to delivery.
  • Instructional Designers moving from a classroom-based to online focus.
     

The certificate will include a combination of lecture, demonstration and self-paced exercises. Many PowerPoint for e-learning examples will be shown. You will be able to download PowerPoint lab files to facilitate learning exercises to be completed during or after each course session. A wide range of reinforcing reading resource links will be provided to facilitate transfer of learning and application on the job.
 

To successfully participate in this certificate, you must:

  • Have basic computer skills:
    • Be comfortable using your mouse or other input tool like a digital tablet.
    • Find and open directories and files.
    • Right-click with the mouse and use the context menu.
    • Select multiple objects.
    • Switch among multiple windows (ALT TAB.)
       
  • Know how to use the basic features of PowerPoint 2002/XP (or higher) to perform these operations:
    • Selecting multiple objects.
    • Duplicating objects.
    • Grouping and ungrouping objects.
    • Arranging objects.
    • Changing the animation order of objects.
    • Changing the front-to-back order of objects.
    • Insert a hyperlink or Action setting.
       

  • Lecture handouts and lab projects files.
  • Access to Jane Bozarth, Ed.D. via discussion forum for follow-up questions after the certificate.
     

This is an advanced, hands-on certificate program. You must have the necessary software installed on you computer as well as have the necessary skills. Here is a checklist to help you get ready. (Note: Mac users are encouraged to participate; however, all demonstrations will be conducted using a PC running Windows XP.)

You will need:

  • PowerPoint 2002/XP or higher. (All the techniques will be demonstrated using PowerPoint 2003 on a PC running Windows XP Professional.) For participants using or considering using PowerPoint 2007 a set of lab exercises will be provided for this platform as well a short demo will be conducted pointing out advanced PowerPoint 2007 features. Keep in mind that all demonstration will be conducted in general using PowerPoint 2003.
  • Flash Player plug-in, which is available from www.adobe.com.
